St Martin is a small, beautiful Caribbean island. But the southern 40% is a “constituent country in the Kingdom of the Netherlands” while the northern 60% is an “overseas collectivity of France”. Dutch Sint Maarten in the south, French St-Martin in the north. St Martin has 36 gorgeous beaches. On the French side, some are clothes-optional. Many offer watersports, diving, fishing and sailing. On Maho Beach, watch planes landing, almost close enough to touch.

What To Eat
Berries never tasted so good
A signature liqueur
St Martin mixes a delicious liqueur based on local guavaberries. Aged rum is mixed with brown sugar and fruit from the guavaberry tree. Specially popular at Christmas.
St Martin spare ribs
The island has its own way with a rack of pork ribs. One option is to wash them in lime and cider vinegar and marinate in barbecue sauce with onions, garlic and lime juice.
Chiquetaille de morue
A Caribbean classic: shredded codfish, grilled and desalted, marinaded in hot peppery vinaigrette with spices, lime juice and scallions, served chilled with avocado, bread or fried plantains.
Saltfish fritters
A popular snack. Flaked saltfish is mixed with vegetables, scallions and tomatoes, seasoned with hot peppers, and deep-fried in batter. Easy and very tasty.
