The Pitons are a pair of dramatic volcanic cones, half a mile high, rearing out of the sea near Soufrière. One of them, Gros Piton, can be climbed if you’re reasonably fit.

Tastes you’ll love in St Lucia
Green figs and saltfish
This is the national dish. Green figs are unripe bananas, which are boiled together with salted codfish, onions and peppers and local herbs and spices.
Cocoa tea and bake
A traditional St Lucian breakfast. Rich hot chocolate made from local cocoa, accompanied by the delicious fried balls of dough that are curiously known as bakes.
St Lucia lambi
Lambi, a.k.a. conch, is the large shellfish whose cases decorate homes all over the Caribbean. The succulent meat can take many forms, often involving spicy sauces. It makes great fritters.

Wash down your meal with one of St Lucia’s world-class dark rums, or a local Piton beer. Or maybe a classic rum punch, with fruit juices, bitters, cinnamon and nutmeg.
