Great Florida cuisine with a local twist
Florida oysters
Both coasts are within easy range of Orlando, and good seafood heads many a menu. Try succulent Florida oysters, fried or dressed, broiled or plain or raw.
Spiny lobster
Florida spiny lobster is especially meaty – try it with salad or pasta, or served whole, split and grilled. It tastes a bit different from Maine lobster.
A bite of gator
Alligator meat is lean and mild, a bit like chicken but fishier. It comes in many forms, including fried, stewed in a gumbo, and mixed in sausage with pork or turkey.
Stone crab
Florida stone crabs have huge, black-tipped claws and a surprising amount of meat inside them. Delicious with butter and lemon.
