What To Eat
A great selection of local dishes to explore
Keshi Yena
A large ball of cheese is filled with well-seasoned chicken or other meat, olives, raisins and other items favoured by the chef, then boiled or steamed. Feeds several people, and is Curaçao’s unofficial national dish.
Kabritu stoba
This tasty goat stew is based on cubes of lean goat meat marinated in lime juice and boiled up with onion and red bell pepper, vinegar and soy sauce, and spiced with nutmeg and paprika as well as salt and pepper.
Pastechi
Special to neighbouring Aruba, pastechi is found throughout the Dutch Antilles, often as a breakfast dish. It’s basically fried pastry with a filling of cheese, ham, tuna or ground meat, and it’s delicious.
Bolo pretu
This black fruit cake is popular at festive gatherings, and contains dates, raisins, cherries, plums, pineapple and sweet syrup blended with Curaçao liqueur, rum or spiced rum. Irresistible.

Netherlands Antilles guilder (or florin)(ANG or NAFl). US dollars are widely used.

110-130v, 50Hz, US-style 2-pin plugs. Some hotels have 220v
Passport
A valid passport is essential. Most nationalities do not need visas for stays up to 90 days. Immigration forms can be completed online.
Tipping
Service charge is usually 10% in restaurants, 12% in hotels. Discretionary tipping: restaurants and taxis 10%, porters 1 guilder per bag.
Driving
Rentals at the airport and through hotels and rental offices in Willemstad. Valid driving permit required. Some companies require minimum age or experience. Driving is on the right.
Public Transport
Buses (“konvoi”) and passenger vans (“bus”), hotel transfers. Taxis are not metered but operate standard fares.

Business Hours
Generally 8/9am to 5/6pm. Banks close at 3.30pm. Some stores close 12-2pm. Banks and offices are closed at the weekend but some stores are open on Saturdays, and some supermarkets on Sunday mornings. Museums and attractions tend to open later and close earlier.
